According Wilford (2004), people have five core needs. These needs consist of belonging, understanding, controlling, enhancing self, and trusting. Wilford (2004) states people are motivated to affiliate for the sense of belonging. It seems that a positive school climate may be able to help students to control their behavior, have a sense of belonging, trust their teachers and administration, understand the importance of education and by have academic success enhance their self-esteem. Schools may be more effective if the whole child programs had a peer committee group that would be able to provide insight about what they feel that the students need to be academically successful.
